Intimate Knot Garden

Knot gardens becamse famous in England during the reign of Queen Elizabeth during the mid to late 1,500′s. Initially they were square gardens with a mix of aromatic plants and culinary herbs, but over time they incorporated boxwood hedges in increasingly complex patterns. In this Short Hills, NJ knot garden – variegated boxwood form complex patterns on both sides of the walk, while standard boxwood frame the edges of the garden. English Ivy fills in around the boxwood while Black Mondo grass – a short grass-like groundcover with deep purple leaves fill in around the base of the urn to the left. Sculptured topiary and beautiful bronze statuary help crerate a unique and timeless garden.
